Bioengineering
Bioinstrumentation and Imaging

Extensive research is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta, in the area of non-invasive recordings and analysis of gastrointestinal electromechanical activity, microprocessor-based recreation of gastrointestinal motility, computerized biofeedback, and information management in clinical environment. Investigations of the possibilities for designing a microprocessor-based artificial pancreas are also under way. Design of new non-linear methods for minimization of the impact of metal implants in Magnetic Resonance imaging is carried out in collaboration with the MRI unit in the Foothills Hospital. In the newly established Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory modular multichannel data acquisition systems are utilized to record and analyze biomedical signals. Design of infralow-frequency computer-controlled biomedical amplifiers is also carried out.
