The diversity within civil engineering creates a wide choice of careers for its graduates.

Many civil engineers continue on, obtain their Masters and PhD degrees, and enter the world of research and teaching.

Within Canada, civil graduates work at all levels of the economy. Some work in small consulting firms, including those specializing in structural, environmental, municipal and geotechnical engineering, and some work in larger firms which encompass several branches of civil engineering. They have worked for the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government in their transportation divisions or have started their own businesses.

Graduates of civil engineering can work all over the world, either as consultants with their own companies or as employees of large international companies, or as volunteers in developing countries,
