Environmental engineers work to make sure pollutants are removed from various streams released to the air and water. They also work to make sure that solid waste is properly disposed to prevent ground water contamination. Environmental engineers develop and design equipment to create a cleaner environment. Companies that need Environmental engineers include:

  • Chemical companies (helping to reduce wastes in streams)
  • Pharmaceutical companies (making drugs that are environmentally safe and do not affect plants and animals)
  • Pulp and paper mills (reducing wastes and restoring forests)
  • Nuclear plants (finding safe ways to dispose of nuclear materials)
  • Oil companies (discovering ways to enhance energy usage)
  • Government agencies, like the Environment Canada or provincial equivalents
