Canals

Panama Canal - The Panama Canal is a high-level lake and lock canal connecting the deep water in the Atlantic to the deep water in the Pacific through the Isthmus of Panama in Central America.

In 1880, the French began construction of the Panama Canal. But after seven years they were forced to abandon the project due to disease and problems with the terrain. The United States purchased the rights to the canal from the French and resumed construction of the Canal in 1904. It was completed and started operations on August 15, 1914.
