The Confederation Bridge

The various parts of the bridge were built on land.

The pieces were then moved to a jetty using a special Huisman slider system

The massive pieces were positioned in the strait by the world's largest floating catamaran crane, the Svanen.

Four hundred thousand cubic meters of concrete went into building the Confederation Bridge. This concrete was divided into three different types:

  • A - structural concrete - used for the main girders, drop-in spans, pier shafts, bases and abutments
  • C - mass concrete and approach pier foundations
  • F - underwater concrete called tremie
